Bessie Young is currently studying for her MFA in Photography at the University of Ulster Belfast as a Mitchell Scholar. Her driving passion is for aging and using the visual arts as a way to document, understand, and advocate on behalf of the elderly in a cross-cultural context. From 2011-2012, Bessie lived as a Henry Luce Scholar in Nishinomiya, Japan, photographing group homes for elderly Japanese living with Alzheimer's and dementia. This work was a continuation of her honors thesis at Amherst College for which she photographed senior living facilities in Turkey, France and the United States and received summa cum laude honors. Bessie was born in Tewksbury, New Jersey.
